Polygon Texturing - UV texture mapping

Also an easy one. Have done similar stuff in 3Ds Max.

Maya Basics

Forgot to add my very first tutorial! Here it is - a temple.

Polygon Modelling -Sculpting a polygon mesh

This part was really easy as I have done similar stuff in 3Ds Max.

Polygon Modelling - Modelling polygonal mesh from a reference image

Most of the tutorial went really smoothly except  Bridging between edges part where for some reason Maya was telling me that I didn't  select  equal number of Edges on both sides of the mesh. Which wasn't truth! :) So after about  1 and  a half  hours I finally managed to find relevant info on the web and move on with my helmet modelling. :O

Trick was to reverse all Normals  perform bridging action and reverse it back.

Where I'll start

Being  a total 'noob' on Autodesk Maya front I have decided to start my journey by going through Maya tutorials found in Help  tab. I think this will help me get to grips with the  very busy ( compared with Autodesk 3Ds Max) interface and eliminate any possibilities that I might miss some vital information or skill on a very basic level.
I'm hoping that some of 3D modelling knowledge acquired previously will come in handy  and  possibly help speed up my learning processes in certain areas.

And here is my Personal Learning Plan folder

Personal Learning Plan

What I want to achieve end of year?

By the end of the second semester I would like to acquire/advance my modelling, texturing and lighting techniques as well as be able to easily create 3D objects, characters and environments using Autodesk Maya 2011 software.

What learning tools I will be using?

  • Autodesk Maya Help & Tutorial files
  •  Online Video Tutorial
  • Various Books (online as well as from library)
  •  Practicals  (university)
Where learning will take place?

  • Mainly at home during dedicated Home Study time
  • At university during Lectures, Practicals & Software clinics
  • Library (using my own laptop)
What I'm going to do?

  • I will follow my Learning Plan Timetable.
  • After completing each Learning Target I will reflect on what I've managed to achieve and how.
  • Take notes/make references if I need to explore topic in more depth.
